Our popular Youth Theatre is for young people (14-18years) who have a passion for drama. The focus is on developing improvisation skills and script work skills at a challenging level and students will be taught techniques used by professional actors.
Some of our Youth Theatre do GCSE Drama at school and they find that the Youth Theatre helps them on their GCSE course. Others have not been able to fit Drama in as an option at school but want to continue to be involved in Drama as they love acting.
We introduce students to a range of Drama styles and playwrights, we also run regular theatre trips. Students also have the opportunity to do Arts Award qualifications and Drama exams if they would like to.
Our Youth Theatre recently toured Dennis Kelly’s gripping play, DNA, around secondary schools and local venues in April and they were praised for their clear characterisations and strong performances. The group raised over £250 for the charity ChildLine from proceeds of the show.
New members from any school are always welcome to join our friendly group.
Here are some comments from our audience who saw the DNA production:
‘The students who watched really found the play very powerful. Congratulations to you, the performers and the crew for a really professional production. Keep in touch for future possible ventures.’ Sue Clarke, Head of Drama, Ringmer Academy.
‘Congratulations on putting together such a powerful production. Myself and my partner, were very impressed with all the acting and it was great watching our daughter perform so confidently’ T. Hunter
‘…it was definitely a lot more grown up than previous shows – like we were watching proper actors, not just coming along to our kids show..’ L. Billington
