'We all loved the Summer School – such a feat in a short space of time! It was so well thought out and the children all performed brilliantly, clearly enjoying the experience and working as a team. Both of my children (5 and 11) want to return to Summer School again next year. Thank you Kaleidoscope!' Sally Jones (Parent)
Kaleidoscope’s 18th Theatre Summer School will be held at Lewes New School. This year, participants will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of theatre and arts professionals, developing their creativity and learning new performance skills.
There will be lots of outdoor performing arts activities in the fresh air, and some indoor sessions in large well ventilated spaces where we can run socially distanced Drama, Dance and Arts sessions.
Each group will stay with their own class as a ‘bubble' for the whole week and will not mix with the other groups. Instead of an audience on the final day, we will create fabulous films of the work and release these on our new Kaleidoscope Youtube Channel for the children, young people, parents and grandparents to watch. Something to be treasured forever!
It is of the utmost importance to us that we keep all of our children and staff safe during the week, so we will be following government guidelines to the letter. In addition we will have a separate toilet blocks for each group, hand sanitiser stations at the entrance of each room and we will ensure all of our games and activities do not require physical contact. Any shared equipment in art will be cleaned with antibacterial wipes. There will be no singing on the week. We will send a Covid 19 Health and Safety Plan to all parents/carers who book places.
A typical day starts with fun Drama warm up games and then participants explore Drama, Dance and Art in workshops led by specialist teachers. Older students are encouraged to work at a more challenging level so they experience a real taste of theatre life, while younger children have longer breaks, more games and are supported by our team of enthusiastic Teaching Assistants. As the week progresses, the children develop their confidence and there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends.
The Summer School is likely to sell out very quickly - we are already 70% booked, so we suggest you book as soon as you can to ensure you don't miss out. Our whole team cannot wait to get back to working creatively with the children and young people in the ‘real world’ and we are thrilled that we can run a Summer School this year!!
Participants are fully supervised from the moment they arrive until they leave. All our staff have Enhanced DBS certificates.
